The American Chemical Society first developed the ACS referencing style, hence the name ACS. Students studying in universities often have to use this referencing style in their academic answers to cite various sources for assignment writing help. ACS referencing style – An overview

The ACS referencing style was developed to be used for citing chemistry assignment help, journals and publications. It is now used for citing science and psychology papers and assignments by university students. It can also be used for book review writing, where the author needs to add sufficient information about the topic.

The ACS referencing style uses author-date systems and numbers to cite resources.

There are two ways of citing in this referencing style:

· In-text citations

· Reference list

ACS referencing style – basics

1. In-text citations

The ACS referencing style consists of in-text citations that can be used for citing sources in-between the body of your content. The in-text citations can be written in two different ways:

· Using numbers

When you use numbers, you can use either italics or brackets. Moreover, you can only use superscript numbers listed sequentially. If you cite a reference more than once, you don't need to add a new number.

When citing multiple references, you need to include those references in increasing order and use commas to separate different references.

· By author-date

You can also cite using the author-date method. You will need to put the surname and year of publication in brackets here.

2. Reference lists

The reference list comes at the end of the paper and is sorted numerically. Only the initials of the author’s name are used. Full stops and spaces are also used after the initials.

Suppose your author's name is Philips, the book name is Understanding Our Earth, the publication date is 2010, and the publisher is Penguin.

Then your reference will look something like this:

In-text citation : (Philips, 2010)

Reference list: Philips, Understanding Our Earth, Penguin, 2010.
